OVERVIEW

Many are the routes that take you to Machu Picchu, but there is none like the Inca Trail, the most famous trekking route in the Americas. Arriving in Cusco, prepare to walk for four days on a path through forests and dense fogs, ancient stone steps and discover the remains of ancient fortifications and Inca cities, while enjoying breathtaking views. Following a 46km walk at the top of the Andes, you will be handsomely rewarded with the first exciting views of Machu Picchu from IntiPunku. This guided tour is a unique experience that will remain engraved in your heart forever.

Llactapata: Ancient Inca village in the Kusichaca valley at the beginning of the road. In the complex, there are three clear sections: religious, residential and agricultural areas.
Warmiwañuska: The highest point of the road offers views as impressive as the emotions experienced when you arrive at the ravine.
Runkurakay: Remains of a small Inca checkpoint that offers magnificent views
Sayacmarca: Visit this enigmatic site, function of which in Inca times remains a mystery

DAY 1 | ARRIVAL TO CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY

A transportation service, accompanied by a guide, picks you up from the airport at the scheduled time to transfer you to your hotel in the Sacred Valley. Upon arrival at the hotel, you are assisted at check-in and accommodation.

DAY 2 | SACRED – PISACUCHO, OLLANTAYTAMBO AND WAYLLABAMBA (12.5km – 5-6 hours)

Breakfast in the hotel. You are picked up in the morning from your hotel in the Sacred Valley and taken to Piscacucho (Km. 82), which is the start point of the Inca Trail. A stop is made in Ollantaytambo Town for 15 to 20 minutes. Once we reach Piscacucho, the hike begins until reaching a nice and quiet campsite near Wayllabamba where you stay. Lunch is served on the way. This day we hike 5 - 6 hours (7.7miles/12.5km). Dinner and overnight at camp.

DAY 3 |SACRED VALLEY– WARMI WAÑUSCA AND PACAYMAYO (12km - 6 to 7 hours)

After having breakfast, the most challenging part of the trek begins, which consists of an abrupt and steep ascent toward the highest pass on the trail known as Warmiwañusca (4,200m / 13,776ft). Then we begin the descent to our second campsite in Pacaymayo, where we will have lunch and dinner. This day we hike for 6 - 7 hours (7.2 miles/11.6km).

DAY 4 | SACRED VALLEY – RUNKURAKAY, CHAQUICOCHA AND WIÑAYHUAYNA (16km - 8 to 9 hours)

This is the longest day of the trek as we walk 8 to 9 hours, but also the most impressive and interesting, due to the number of archaeological sites and to the lush cloud forest area, rich in Andean flora and fauna along the way. From Pacaymayo we climb to Runquracay Pass, and then descend to our lunch stop at Chaquicocha. Then the hike continues up an easy climb, until we reach Phuyupatamarca Pass (3,700m / 12,073ft), walk on through the cloud forest until the final campsite at Wiñayhuayna (8,792ft), where dinner is served. This day entails 8 to 9 hours and 10 miles of hiking.

DAY 5 | WIÑAYHUAYNA –MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

After an early breakfast, we depart from the campsite in order to arrive before sunrise to Inti Punku (´Sun Gate´); entrance gate to Machu Picchu. From here, you experience the first extraordinary view of Machu Picchu at dawn and then descend to the citadel. Walk on to this iconic ancient citadel, where your guide leads a 2-hour tour, and then enjoy some time to explore it on your own. After visiting Machu Picchu, take the bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch in Café Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo, and then take a train ride back to Cusco in the evening.

DAY 6 | DEPARTURE CUSCO

Breakfast at the hotel. A transportation service and guide picks you up from your hotel at the established time and transfer you to the airport.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE NEW ENTRANCE REGULATIONS TO MACHU PICCHU

The current restrictions on visits to Machu Picchu allow a maximum stay of 4 hours in the citadel accompanied by a guide during the first entry. If the visitor tours an alternate route (Mountain Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu) the passenger will have 3 hours to for this purpose, additional to the 4 hours in the citadel. If the passenger wishes to enter the citadel again during the afternoon shift or the next day, he must acquire previously an additional ticket to enter in the new shift. There is no ticket sale in the archaeological zone.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR LUGGAGE TRANSFER ON BOARD OF TRAIN TO MACHU PICCHU

  • Carry the same document that you presented to the agency, given that the train tickets and entrance to Machu Picchu will be issued with the same information.
  • In all train services to Machu Picchu, the passenger can carry only hand luggage (backpack, bag or briefcase) weighing no more than 5kg / 11lb on the train to / from Machu Picchu. You Will find your luggage at the selected hotel.

Comfortable and light clothing is recommended for visiting the coastal areas of Peru, while for the high Andean area the use of warm clothing is recommended. It is not recommended that visitors wear sleeveless shirts, shorts, short skirts or short clothes when visiting religious temples or official buildings. Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat and mosquito repellent can be very useful during your stay.
