Sri Lanka Epic Island Tour

Day 01 – AIRPORT / COLOMBO - Approximately 45 Mins

Meet and assist on arrival by our Representative and transfer to Colombo. Check-in to the hotel and relax. Colombo which is the largest city and former administrative capital of Sri Lanka and is a busy and vibrant city with a mixture of modern life and remnants of a bygone colonial era. Due to its large harbor and its strategic position along the East-West sea trade routes, Colombo was known to ancient traders 2,000 years ago. However it was only made the Capital of the island when Sri Lanka was ceded to the British Empire in 1815. The main city is home to a majority of the Sri Lanka’s corporate offices, restaurants and entertainment venues. On this tour you will visit many of the historical, religious and commercial sites of Colombo including the historic and bustling Fort and Pettah, the elite residential Cinnamon Gardens, the Galle face Green, Viharamahadevi Park and much more.

Day 02 – COLOMBO / SIGIRIYA / DAMBULLA - Approximately 4 ½ Hrs

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Dambulla. Enroute climb the 5th century Sigiriya Rock fortress which is a UNESCO world heritage site, built by King Kashyapa (477-495). The spectacular citadel of Sigiriya rises sheer and impregnable out of the plains of the dry zone. It is the country’s most memorable single attraction, a remarkable archaeological site made unforgettable by its dramatic setting. The rock was the innermost stronghold of a 70 hectare fortified town. A moat, rampart and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock. Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the 'Heavenly Maidens' of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. Continue the journey to Dambulla. Check-in to the hotel and relax.

Day 03 – DAMBULLA / MATALE - Approximately 2 Hrs / MATALE / KANDY - Approximately 2 Hrs

Breakfast at the hotel and visit the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains. There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding area. Major attractions are spread over five caves, which contain statues and paintings. These paintings and statues are related to Gautama Buddha and his life. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings and four statues of gods and goddesses. The latter include Vishnu and the Ganesha. The murals cover an area of 2,100 square metres (23,000 sq ft). Depictions on the walls of the caves include the temptation by the demon Mara, and Buddha's first sermon.

Thereafter transfer to Kandy. Enroute stop at a Spice Garden in Matale to see many different types of spices Sri Lanka is famous for.

Later visit Matale Aluvihare Rock Temple, traced back to the 3rd Century B.C to the reign of King Devanampiyatissa. It is believed that the King built the dagoba, planted the Bo sapling and founded the temple after the introduction of Buddhism to the country during his reign. Also Aluvihare Rock Temple was the historic location where the Pāli Canon was first written down completely in text on ola (palm) leaves. Many monastery caves, some of which exhibit frescoes are situated near this temple

Continue the journey to Kandy. Arrive in Kandy, a UNESCO world heritage site. The historic city about 480m above sea level surrounded by mountains was known to Sri Lankan as Kanda Uda Rata, which means the hill country. Kandy was home to Sri Lanka's last independent Kingdom, which survived two centuries of colonial incursion before finally falling to the British at the beginning of the nineteenth century.

Day 04 – KANDY

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Giragama to visit a Tea Factory and an Estate to witness the process how the World renowned Ceylon Tea is produced. Thereafter enjoy a city tour. Visit the Temple of the tooth, The Royal Botanical Gardens, the Peradeniya University campus and catch a panoramic view of the picturesque town from Upper Lake Drive. Later in the evening witness the Cultural Show.

Day 05 – KANDY / BEACH STAY – Approximately 4 1/2 Hrs

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer for the beach stay. Arrive at the hotel and relax.
