OVERVIEW

Broaden your horizons on this 4-day package, where you will immerse yourself in the customs of the local tribe of Sulawesi and explore the terrain one of Indonesia’s lesser known islands.

A weird and wonderful experience, this tour will serve as an eye-opener and instill distinctive memories of Indonesia, to be kept long after your holiday has finished. Prepare to be amazed in every sense of the word with off-the-beaten track excursions to untamed villages landscapes where you will embark on treks, experience the warmth of locals and dine on traditional fare.

DAY 1 - MAKASSAR - RANTEPAO - TORAJA

On arrival at Hasanuddin airport meet your guide and private car. Drive to Rantepao (8 hours), through the remote villages of the Bugis people. Continue driving through the hills before reaching Rantepao in the late afternoon. The small capital Toraja is home to an ethnic group famous for their elaborate funeral rites, traditional houses and spectacular carving and dancing. (L,D)

DAY 2 - RANTEPAO - TORAJA

This morning you will head south of Toraja to visit two traditional villages and their surroundings. Begin with a drive to Lemo and Suaya villages which are surrounded by cliffs pierced with graves and very realistic tau tau (hanging effigies) of deceased nobility. This afternoon, visit Londa village where wooden coffins are suspended by ropes and poles extending from the cliffs. Continue to Ketekesu, a village which has one of the finest ensembles of Tongkonan (Toraja traditional houses). (B,L,D)

DAY 3 - RANTEPAO - TORAJA

Rise early for breakfast before you head out to visit the villages north of Rantepao. Follow this with a visit to Batutumonga where you will take a light trek through the Toraja villages. Perched on the slopes of Mount Sesean, walk through the villages of Bori and Palawa to meet the locals. This afternoon visit Marante, a village noted for its Tau Tau which are located on a cliff and dressed all in white. Return to the hotel for dinner. (B,L,D)

DAY 4 - RANTEPAO - MAKASSAR DEPARTURE

After an early breakfast, drive back to Makassar (8 hours) stopping en route for lunch in Pare Pare. You will be transferred to the Makassar airport for your onward flight. (B)
