OVERVIEW

Dublin – originally founded as a Viking Settlement, it evolved into the Kingdom of Dublin and became the Islands primary city following the Norman Invasion.

It is the Capital and largest city of Ireland. It is an historical and contemporary cultural centre for the country, as well as a modern centre of education, the arts, administration, economy and industry. Dublin has more green spaces per square kilometre than any other European capital city, with 97% of city residents living within 300 metres of a park area. It is the most cosmopolitan city in Ireland, and at the same time is steeped in history and culture. You are guaranteed to experience true Irish “craic” in Dublin.

Cork – located approximately 2.5 hours from Dublin, it is the Republic of Ireland’s second largest city. The city is built on the River Lee which divides into two channels at the western end of the city. It has been proposed that like Dublin, Cork was an important trading centre in the global Scandinavian trade network when Viking settlers founded a trading port. Cork is steeped in history, architecture, sport and culture. The best way to immerse yourself in the true Cork culture is by walking through the many streets that are steeped in Irish history. Be prepared to listen to the sing-songs that break out spontaneously in the evenings! Designated European City of Culture 2005.

Limerick – the city dates from at least the Viking settlement in 812 and the Normans re-designed the city in the 12th century adding much of the most notable architecture such as King John’s Castle. Only located one hour from Galway and one hour from Killarney, a stop in this city is definitely worth your while.
