OVERVIEW

In its long and eventful history, Tunisia has been occupied by Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs. Today, the country is home to some of North Africa’s most impressive ruins, including eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Beginning in Tunis, you can explore the bustling markets and mosques of the UNESCO protected old town. Moving west you'll sample the impressive Roman ruins at Dougga and Bulla Regia, with a Mediterranean base at Tabarka. Next stop is the holy Islamic city of Kairouan, a short distance from the breathtaking amphitheatre at El Jem.
